Jani Lane, the 47-year-old former lead singer of the '80s hair-band, Warrant, was found dead Thursday night in a Comfort Inn in Woodlands Hills, Calif., the Associated Press reported.
A police spokesman told he Los Angeles Times the cause of death was not yet known and the case was being turned over to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
Warrant released two double-platinum albums - 1989's "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich" and 1990's "Cherry Pie" - and a had a string of hits, including the ballad, "Heaven," which reached No. 2 on the Billboard charts.
His most recent album was with a new band, Saints of the Underground, which released "Love the Sin, Hate the Sinner," in 2008.
The frontman may have been better known in recent years, however, for his 2005 stint on VH1's "Celebrity Fit Club."
Lane is survived by his third wife and two daughters.
