He may no longer be the Jesus of Cool, but Nick Lowe sounds fantastic on his latest album, "The Old Magic."
The 61 year-old Lowe has taken to crooning on the eleven new tracks of "The Old Magic.” Just like longtime friend, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe is still delivering quick and witty lyrical twists.
On the opening track, "Stoplight Roses," Lowe notes that they are "a dead giveaway." His dignified deadpan delivery makes such observations very effective.
While a majority of the album is comprised of slower ballads, Lowe picks up the tempo on a few songs. "I'm 61 years old now, Lord, I never thought I'd see 30." he sings on the Johnny Cash inspired "Checkout Time."
Nick Lowe may not be the New Waver he once was in the '80s, but he can still rock, even if it's crooning!
