New Music Tuesdays: Tedeschi Trucks Band 'Revelator'

Available today is Revelator, the anticpated debut album from the husband-wife team of singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi and guitarist Derek Trucks.  After recording with Herbie Hancock and performing together at various festivals in 2010, including Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, the duo recorded Revelator at the Swamp Raga Studios, in their hometown of Jacksonville, FL.

Revelator is full of bluesy rockers, funky jams, and delicate ballads that showcase the individual talents of both Tedeschi and Trucks in a setting that perfectly blends the two together.  The couple have assembled an incredible 11-piece band that includes: brothers Oteil Burbridge (bassist with the Allman Brothers Band) and Kofi Burbridge (keyboardist/flutist with The Derek Trucks Band), dual-drummers J. J. Johnson and Tyler Greenwell, trumpeter Maurice Brown, tenor saxophonist Kebbi Williams, trombonist Saunders Sermons, and harmony singers Mark Rivers and Mike Mattison to name the majority of the talent.

Throughout Revelator, Susan's vocals soar with passion and soul rooted in the blues while Derek complements her singing with his stellar guitar work most noteably on: “Come See About Me” and “Don’t Let Me Slide.”  “Bound For Glory” may be the most insprirational cut on the entire album with it's uplifting chorus, while “Until You Remember” is a full group effort complete with arguably one of the best guitar solos Derek Trucks has ever recorded.

This album is special; the musicians that make up the Tedeschi Trucks Band sound more like an established group than band just playing together for the first time.  The seamless playing resonates well and draws the listener in making you want to hear the album over and over again after the final song fades.

The Showbiz Kids Rating: 9 out of possible 10
