George Harrison: The Guitar Collection

It would be George's 69th birthday tomorrow and he would have been proud of what his son Dhani helped create.  This new app is available on iTunes and its an intimate way to explore some of George's actual guitars and his history with them.  
I just bought it last night and have barely skimmed the surface of all the information here.  One of my most favorites features of the app is you can hear actual recordings of George re-telling the history of the particular guitar.  You can see the rosewood Fender guitar seen on the rooftops of Abbey Road while playing "Get Back."  Or zoom in and rotate hi-res photos and see all the scratches and wear on his Gibson J-160E from many tunes on Beatles For Sale.

February 23rd:The George Harrison Guitar Collection

An ipad app will be released on iTunes on February 23rd, two days before George's birthday featuring George's guitars and many other in-depth features including audio of him telling stories about the guitar.  Go to his website here to read more and see a short video on the project George Harrison.

My Sweet Lord...first #1 US Single in December 1970

George was the first ex-Beatle to have a #1 US single with "My Sweet Lord" off of his double album All Things Must Pass.

It was certified Gold and sold well over a million copies.  However the single wasn't without controversy.  There was a 10 year battle over the musical similarities between his song and The Chiffons' hit "He's So Fine".

Here are some big names that George was always associated with but Eric Clapton,Gary Wright,Ringo Starr,Billy Preston and Klaus Voormann  played on My Sweet Lord.

Coming soon...George amassed a large collection of guitars over his career and his son Dhani is organizing a way for us to view them along with background and history of the guitars.

Premiere of George Harrison: Living In The Material World on HBO tonight!

Martin Scorsese's documentary on George Harrison premiere's tonight in the US on HBO at 9pm.  There are some reviews out that you can read, but if you're a Beatles fan and a fan of George the reviews aren't important.  Apparently there will be unseen home video footage, photos and Olivia Harrison gives insight to the 1999 home invasion when George was stabbed.  Its a two part series on HBO finishing tomorrow.

George has always been my favorite Beatle member and my second favorite Beatle musically.  I would stare at the back of the Rubber Soul album and daydream of being one of them.  Obviously there was no Internet in the late 70s and early 80s and they had long since broken up.  So there wasn't much of them to see in current magazines or images other than what was on their albums.  I would take what I could get and the mixture of The Monkees on TV and my imagination was a desperate substitute to the longing of this young 5th Beatle in Atlanta, Georgia.
