Confirmation that Mark Knopfler wasn't performing with Dire Straits when his former band got inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame came as no surprise. After all, they'd long since split into competing musical camps: Knopfler moved on as a solo artist, while some of the others toured as "the Straits."
