Angell "The Broken Tour"

So, who is Joe Bonamassa?
It's very rare, these days that I turn on the television and discover a new musician or band, but this weekend proved to be one of those bizarre and awesome instances. For some odd reason, I had a few minutes to kick back on the sofa Saturday afternoon and couldn't find anything to watch, so I changed the channel to Palladia, which is one of the HD music channels on Dish Network.
I instantly recognized Eric Clapton, but he was sharing the stage with another guitar prodigy that I have never seen nor heard before. In all honesty, I thought I was watching an Eric Clapton concert that was filmed at Royal Albert Hall, but Slowhand left the stage and this amazing guitarist remained and absolutely shredded the blues. After a pressing the "Info" button on my remote control, I learned this was not a Clapton concert I was watching, it was all Joe Bonamassa. Who is this guy? Where do I sign up? Why am I just now hearing his music for the first time?
Well for those of you that have been living under the same rock as me, Joe Bonamassa is a 33 year-old guitar virtuoso from New York State. He is a fourth-generation musician that began playing guitar at the age of 4 and could play songs by the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix, note-for-note, by the age of 7. At age 12, Joe was opening for blues legend, B.B. King and 2 years later founded a group called Bloodline with Miles Davis' son, Erin and Robby Krieger's son Waylon.
Bonamassa released his solo debut in 2000 and has since released over 8 new albums and 3 live recordings in the past decade. He is currently touring in various countries all over the globe in support of his latest album, Dust Bowl, which released on March 22, 2011.
In addition to sharing the stage with Eric Clapton and B. B. King, he has also played with other music greats including Buddy Guy, Foreigner, Robert Cray, Stephen Stills, Joe Cocker, Gregg Allman, Steve Winwood, Paul Jones, Ted Nugent, Warren Haynes, and Derek Trucks.
I figured that I should start with his most current album and work my way backwards through the discography. All I can say is, if Dust Bowl is only a taste of what Joe Bonamassa has to offer, then I am on a mission to purchase everything this man has done. Did I mention that he can also sing with as much soul as he shreds his guitar with? If you have the chance, check your local listings and watch the Joe Bonamassa-Live From The Royal Albert Hall concert; just prepare to have your mind blown! Joe Bonamassa is the real deal and the genuine article-one of the best musicians in the business right now. Thanks, Palladia!!

Classic Albums Reissued This Week: Rush and the Tubes
What more can one possibly say about Rush's eighth and biggest U.S. release, Moving Pictures? This album was literally issued to all kids that grew up in the 1980s and is easily one of the seminal favorites of the Rush discography. The album was orginally released on February 12th, 1981 and produced two of the all-time greatest classic rock staples: "Tom Sawyer" and "Limelight." Other highlights include "Red Barchetta," the Grammy-nominated instrumental "YYZ" and the fan-favorite,"Vital Signs." The reissue of this essential Rush album will be available in two formats: a digitally remastered CD which includes a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound mix on DVD and a digitally remastered CD Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound mix on Blu-ray. In addition to the full album, the DVD & Blu-ray discs will feature three bonus music videos, "Tom Sawyer," "Limelight" and "Vital Signs." Rush guitarist, Alex Lifeson, oversaw the remastering process for the 30th anniversary Deluxe Edition of Moving Pictures and used the original multi-tracks from the original analog master tapes to create the 5.1 surround sound mix. Finally, included in the package is a gallery of previously unreleased photos from the original recording sessions, newly written liner notes by music journalist David Fricke, and 30th anniversary artwork by album's original designer, Hugh Syme. Move over, 1997 Rush Remasters, and here's to hoping that 2112 recieves the same treatment soon!
Being a "Deadhead," it was long after the 80s that I discovered the Tube's brilliant career upon learning of Grateful Dead keyboardist, Vince Welnick's origin in the Tubes. Originally released in 1981, The Completetion Backward Principle was the Tubes' sixth release and their first for Capitol/EMI after being dropped by A&M the prior year for producing nothing more than a cult following of rabid fans. This album found the Tubes take a more straight forward approach with producer, David Foster and the album spawned the hits "Talk to Ya Later" and prom night favorite, "Don't Want To Wait Anymore." This digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1981 classic includes four bonus tracks as well as new liner notes by rock journalist Brett Milano and interviews with band members Fee Waybill and Roger Steen.
